Welcome to the new Reach for the Stars website! I'm excited you are here to learn more about me and my company!
The Formation of Reach for the Stars Tutoring:
In sixth grade, I had the most dynamic and amazing teacher who, I believe, helped foster my passion for teaching. I decided that year I wanted to go to college and become a teacher. I was an excellent student in my formative years thanks to some really great teachers. However, in Junior High my math scores started to dwindle because I was intimidated by my math teachers. They were large men with booming voices. If a student got an answer wrong, they made sure the whole class knew it. As if that wasn't enough, in 8th grade I met with our school guidance counselor to determine if I would take the "Tech Prep" or "College Prep" coursework in high school. My counselor told me that I should take Tech Prep courses because I wasn't college material. I was devastated then, but I thank that lady today. I didn't listen to her advice and pursued the College Prep coursework anyway. I went on to graduate first in my high school class, finished my Bachelor's Degree in Deaf Education with a 3.95, and my Master's in Education with a 4.0! In the near future, I plan to begin my doctorate work in the field of Deaf Education and Interpreting for the Deaf.
I've been working with children, between the ages of 4 and 18, for 15 years now. I've taught children who have no learning difficulties, as well as pupils who were deaf, autistic, and learning disabled. What I've learned through my educational experiences growing up, and through the children with whom I've worked, is every child will rise to what we expect of him or her. "If we expect a child to fail, he will! If we expect a child to REACH FOR THE STARS, he will do that and more."
